“Who’s Lovin’ You (Live at the Forum)” - Jackson 5
Excerpt from Live at the Forum Disc 1
Buried in the vault all these years… The Jackson 5’s first-ever full live album in the U.S., and so much more. Incredible performances, from 1970 and a return engagement from 1972.
Today’s Forum story:
Looking back it’s hard to imagine that in 1969-70 the J5 were kids thrust suddenly into a huge spotlight. They had big hits right away, but young Michael had no real grasp on what was happening… Think about it – he was 11, going on 12, and when the group’s manager Shelly Berger told him they were going to play the Forum in L.A. - about 10 months after they were there in support of Diana Ross & the Supremes - Michael looked up and asked, “Who are we opening for?”
No one, young MJ, not anymore.
MJ and his brothers were amazing, stepping and playing and singing without missing a beat. We all remember – or have heard stories about – him absolutely nailing Smokey’s “Who’s Lovin’ You.” But to do that in front of 18,000+ fans? Listen to today’s clip… WOW.
(Check out the visuals from a few months earlier on The Ed Sullivan Show.)
Tomorrow – a little more from the 1970 show.
I LOVE YOU, MICHAEL JACKSON.
