“I Found That Girl (Live At The Forum)” - Jackson 5
Excerpts from Live At The Forum, Discs 1 & 2
Today’s Forum story:
Clearly MJ is the centerpiece of any J5 conversation – he’s utterly commanding on Live At The Forum. But anyone alive then will tell you, Jermaine was the hotness back in the day, as Mark Anthony Neal reminds us in the album’s liner notes:
…in the early days of Jacksonmania it was clear that many of the fans were there for Jermaine, the group’s 15-year-old sex symbol. Even MJ knew the score: to a rising frenzy he introduced “I Found That Girl” as “the song you’ve all been waiting for.”
Yes, the B-side of the then-current No. 1, “The Love You Save,” the amazing track featuring Jermaine, wildly anticipated by the crowd. Check out a snippet of the performance from the 1970 show, followed by a clip of the same song from 1972, when he’s 17. (Love those family harmonies.)
Consider, too, that Jermaine was also this hugely successful group’s working bass player. He is one bad-ass bass-playing brother.
Tomorrow- more about the band.
